Science Department

The Al Sahwa Schools Science department has a fully committed staff to develop students’ with sound scientific knowledge, practical skills and curiosity about the links between scientific theories and the World we live in.

Throughout the grades our teaching program is to facilitate students’ development in ….

 The Science department has a dedicated team of 5 Teachers and a Technician.  Each staff member has many years experience and has taught in a number of countries. This brings a melting pot of ideas, teaching methodology and an international perspective to teaching Science at Al Sahwa Schools. 

We are all passionate about providing the best learning opportunities and environment for our students. The Science department has 3 specialist laboratories and 1 general laboratory.  The members of Science Department are committed to improving the achievement of Students in Science and providing a stimulating teaching program.

 General Science - Elementary and Middle School

Students from K to grade 8 follow a General Science course.  Where they experience all sections of Science: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Physics in topic or theme based units.  In the Elementary school the PYP program being introduced is extremely beneficial for their understanding and skill development the students are participating in enquiry based learning.  This is a very important foundation skill in Science.  At grades 7 and 8 Students also participate in a General Science course.  Students are working toward building a strong foundation of knowledge to prepare them for Senior Specialist Sciences.  Their program is also targeted to developing practical and enquiry skills.  This year the year 7 and 8 students have participated in curriculum collapse days. These collapse days have a linked a theme throughout their subjects.  These special programs have been extremely beneficial to students in developing the understanding the school subjects are not isolated to each other or to real life.

 Specialist Sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics – Upper School

In the upper school Students select the specialist Sciences that they wish to study.  Grades 9 and 10 undertake a two year program to prepare for Cambridge IGCSE Examination.  In June 2006 the first Grade 10 students sat their IGCSE Examinations and attained very pleasing grades.  In the last two years of Upper School the Grade 11 and 12 Students study for the Al Thanaweya Al Aamma Qualification.
