Al Sahwa Schools is an authorized school for the Primary Years Program*. These are schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Al Sahwa believes is important for our students. The PYP* programme focuses on developing the whole child through challenging and stimulating units of inquiry which broaden each child’s perspectives and encourages children to develop higher order thinking skills. The traditional subjects of English and Arabic Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Personal and Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, IT and Islamic Studies are taught through six transdisciplinary themes.
These themes are:
Who we are
Where we are in place and time
How we express ourselves
How we organize ourselves
How the world works
Sharing the planet
The programme encourages students to become inquirers, thinkers, communicators and risk-takers. As they learn, students also develop into knowledgeable, principled, open-minded, balanced, reflective and caring individuals. These are the characteristics of the PYP* Learner Profile.
The Elementary section is divided into two, the boys' section and the girls' section. There are two classes at each grade level in each school. Music, IT and PE are taught by specialist teachers. The school day starts at 7:30 and ends at 14:05.
Al Sahwa Schools aims to equip students for their present and future learning needs as well as to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century while maintaining the Omani customs and heritage. Through our programme we aim to develop peaceful and responsible citizens of the world.
