The Kindergarten was built to conform with the most modern architectural designs that suit children’s growth, needs and abilities. This design enables us to provide an interesting education to help children develop in a proper way through integrated learning.

The Kindergarten provides the following facilities:

  • Six Classrooms: Four KG2 and Two KG1, each one is divided into corners (Story Corner, Put-up/pull-down Corner, Art Corner, Family Co-existence Corner and Learning Corner). The teacher divides the children into groups according to these Corners;

  • A Music Room, which is used by a specialist teacher within a curriculum linked to the children’s experiences.

  • A Computer and Story Room;

  • An external shaded area for Sand Games and Outdoor Games during the break;

  • An open area between the classrooms, used for aquatic games as well as an Art Corner;

  • A closed air-conditioned hall, equipped with games for safe play. Morning assembly and sports activities are usually held in this hall.

The Kindergarten is divided into two sections:

  1. KG1, for children aged 3.5+ years.

  2. KG2, for children aged 4.5+ years.

There are Six classes in each of these sections and a total of 102 children on roll.

School Day at The Kindergarten:

School day in the Kindergarten starts at 7:30 am with assembly in the Hall. During the first break a healthy and varied meal is given to the children. Afterwards they have some free play time until the second teaching session which lasts until the end of the school day at 12:00 o’clock.

Teaching Topics and the Curriculum:

The Kindergarten curriculum complies with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and includes the following topics: My Kindergarten - Who am I? - My Health and Safety - Transportation - My Family - My Country, Oman. On the basis of these topics, the Kindergarten combines its aims and activities and integrates the Arabic and English teaching.

We aim to develop many skills of which the following are the most important:

Writing, which helps the child’s fine-motor skills to develop so that he/she can use a pen or pencil, hold a brush, use scissors and practice other basic skills.

Languages, to enrich the child’s vocabulary and thinking in both Arabic and English. We use language books, storybooks and worksheets prepared by the teachers.

Number, to distinguish between numerical symbols, figures, geometric shapes, and to do some simple arithmetical operations. We use early Maths learning books with worksheets mostly prepared by the teachers.

Creative and artistic skills, through storybooks, music and drama.

Social skills, so that the child becomes a well-behaved, social individual who shares opinions and materials with others.

Islamic concepts, to teach the child how to behave as a Muslim, familiar with Islamic conventions and accepted standards of behaviour. Children learn to memorize some short Verses (Sura) of the Holy Qur'an and celebrate the Islamic occasions and Eids.

Scientific, including the ability to do experiments to gain practical knowledge and understanding.

Activities:The Kindergarten aims to provide a variety of integrated and co-ordinated activities, for example:

Sports

one period per week, to develop the child’s large and small muscles.

Music

taught by a specialized teacher. Songs and Drama are linked to children’s experiences.

Computers

one period per week, including educational and recreational games.

Trips

to extend children’s experiences and learning.

Swimming

twice per month in warm water.

Puppets

once per month, to make learning especially memorable!

Library

one period in the Schools’ Library to familiarize children with the library and library procedures.

Arabic Occasions and Celebrations:

The Kindergarten celebrates a number of Arabian Occasions, such as Tree Day and Family Day. Kindergarten children also take part in the National Day Celebrations.

One of the most outstanding and important celebrations is the KG2 Graduation in which both sections participate and introduce purposeful and amusing performances of their work.

This Graduation Celebration remains as a beautiful memory in the imaginations of our children at this important stage of their lives as they move on to lower elementary education in Grade 1.
