Information Technology

ICT at Al Sahwa is becoming a very important part of every student’s learning experience.  The ICT staff at the school are shifting the view of ICT as a subject, to one which sees ICT as a tool, essential to all learning areas.  The students at Al Sahwa schools are being equipped with ICT skills which are essential in enhancing and facilitating learning in all subject areas.

The ICT setup at Al Sahwa schools has recently undergone a major upgrade.  During the Summer of 2006, the school installed a brand new, school-wide network, making use of some of the latest technology.  We now have two fully equipped ICT laboratories, each containing brand new, networked computers, laser printers, scanners and projectors.    These are used mainly for Upper Elementary and Upper school classes.  Students are able to use these and other computers in the school to access the internet, do research for assignments, share their ICT skills with each other and make use of these skills when working in other subjects.

The school also has a fully equipped ICT drop-in lab, which is used mainly for the elementary classes.  Students are also able to use these labs to do research and assignments.  Teachers of all subject areas are also able to make use of the ICT facilities at the schools.  In this way, the schools are ensuring that ICT becomes a tool for learning in all subject areas.

Students and teachers have been very excited about all the ICT changes that have recently been made.  The introduction of a sophisticated and stable network system, with Internet access has enhanced the process of learning through discovery at Al Sahwa Schools.  Students are now able to research various topics of interests in groups and individually, learn from each other and develop their skills in the process.

Our first group of  IGCSE students wrote their exams in April 2006.  We were extremely pleased with their results.  This year, the department is looking forward to their second group of students writing the international Cambridge IGCSE exams.  This group is due to write their IGCSE finals in 2007.  Our third group of IGCSE students has already begun their preparation for their 2008 exams and we are enjoying sharing the IGCSE journey with them.  We are looking very forward to more students enrolling for the ICT IGCSE course!

The ICT department at Al Sahwa is very pleased to have begun a journey this year.  The first step of this journey was upgrading our systems to the best possible systems our students could make use of to enhance their learning as much as possible.  Now that this milestone has been reached, we are focusing on fully developing essential skills within our students and assisting the students to use these skills and the new systems to their full potential.  We are looking forward to our ongoing journey, as we ensure that Al Sahwa Schools become a leader in technology-enabled and enhanced education.
