School
The
Elementary Department covers Grades 1 – 6. It has 12 classes in the Girls’
School and 12 classes in the Boys’ School with two classes at each grade
level. The teachers of English and Arabic are based in either the Boys’
School or the Girls’ School. The average class size is 20 students and the
students are mainly Omani with one or two students from the Arab Gulf
States. There is an international staff working in the department – Omani,
Jordanian, Egyptian, Tunisian, British, Canadian, Indian, American,
Australian, and New Zealanders.
The Elementary Department has begun the
process
of
introducing the Primary Years Programme (PYP)
during this academic year 2006-2007. This is part of the IB system
(International Baccalaureate). The schools have applied to
the IBO to become a candidate school. The programme builds on what the
children already know and what they can do. The programme is inquiry-based
and encourages the students to become lifelong learners who are
responsible for their own learning. The teachers use a range and balance
of teaching strategies to meet the objectives of the curriculum. The
teaching and learning is supported by a range of appropriate resources,
including ICT.
