Welcome to Al Sahwa Schools website.  The school was founded in 1993 as a joint project by the Royal Palace of the Sultan of Oman and the Royal Oman Police.   Al Sahwa Schools is committed to providing a high quality international education for its students whilst embracing traditional values based on the foundations of Oman's cultural inheritance.

Al Sahwa offers a bi-lingual education for Omani and other Arabic speaking children from the ages of 3-18 years.  The school is located in the attractive residential area of Shatti Al Qurum close to the beach, cafes and many of the embassies.  The school comprises a kindergarten, elementary and secondary section with a roll of over 1000 students and 85 dedicated teachers from 15 different nations.  Students from grades 1-12 are further divided into a Boys’ and Girls’ school.  Throughout the school there is a strong sense of belonging to a community. 

The curriculum combines syllabi from the Oman Ministry of Education and other international programmes.  Whilst the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate is being implemented in the Kindergarten and Elementary section, senior students work towards achieving their IGCSE and the General Education Diploma for Bi-Lingual schools.  English, Mathematics, the Sciences and some electives are taught in English whist Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies are taught in Arabic. 

Students pursue a well-balanced education combining intellectual inquiry, sporting and cultural activities, leadership programmes and a firm grounding in spiritual awareness.  Students are encouraged to look outwards and learn through their experiences.  In doing so they come to discover that self-knowledge and fulfilment comes from a sense of duty and acceptance of responsibility rather than the seeking of privileges. 

“Sahwa” translates as “awakening”, to the Learning that lies at the heart of what we do and when students learn how to learn they become independent and so acquire the skills and desire for lifelong learning.
